Trust

Have you ever been in a situation where you wish you could just knock a bit of sense into some one's brain?

If you have, you may understand how I'm feeling right now...completely helpless.

I currently know someone full of potential to do something huge in life. Yet, I've watched this person make choices that have not only hurt themself, but those around them...

The potential is still there, but it has been hidden away.

All throughout the journey this person has gone through, I've been praying for them, and I've really struggled because to me it does not seem like my prayers have been answered.

But you know what, every prayer I've prayed HAS been answered. Do I see the answer, no. Will I see the answer I'm waiting for, I honestly don't know. But I do know one thing... God knows best.

It's hard coming to the place where the heart and mind fully trust that God is in control.

Growing up in a strong Christian home, I learned that God knows everything, and knows what is best for everyone. And it is the absolute truth. Yet, since I like to know everything about what will or will not happen, I tend to be a bit of a control freak, and that's where I've had trouble. I know God is in control, but I've wanted things to go the way I think they should go, and so I have a hard time leaving it in God's hands. But reality is God is in total control.

God knew what would happen with this person I know. He knew I'd struggle with watching some of the decisions that were/are being made. Yet HE knows what is best for my life, and what is best for this person's life. And in reality, it all comes down to trust.

Over the past couple of weeks I have finally, after a long year and a month, come to a place of actually trusting that all will be well. The situation with the person I know is still scary, because the outcome is uncertain...I don't want this person to make a decision that will cause hurt and pain to themself. Yet I've made a decision to TRUST that no matter how it looks right now, God is doing something amazing. I may not physically see anything right now, but HE is doing something.

Trusting is a process. It isn't perfected in one day. Trusting is a choice to believe that no matter what, God is up to something good.

Fun With Fondant

For my Mom's birthday, I decided to try decorating her cake with marshmallow fondant. For the most part, I had a lot of fun with it! Since I like my cakes to look perfect, I usually get stressed when I ice them. The nice thing with fondant is that it takes a lot of the stress away. You just roll out the fondant, put it on the cake, and there, the cake is iced and it's time for the fun part of decorating the cake!

My brother wanted to decorate the extra part of the cake, so I helped him decorate it! I have to say, he did an amazing job!!

Legacy

Two years ago today we got the call: My Great Grandpa Wiebe had passed away on his 95th birthday. It was a day full of grief, but also full of joy, as we knew he was in heaven with Jesus.

My Great Grandpa lived a full life, and in that left an amazing legacy for my family.

The greatest thing he left my family was a heritage of faith. Great Grandpa Wiebe was a Mennonite, and taught his children about the ways of God. When I was younger we didn't see my Great Grandpa too often, but when we did, I remember always seeing a German Bible on his end table.

In his quiet way, he showed the entire family how to stand strong in the Lord, no matter what.

I am so grateful that my Grandma and Dad have all taken note of my Great Grandpa's example and are passing down the heritage of faith Great Grandpa displayed throughout his life.

Great Grandpa Wiebe also left my family a legacy of love. When I was young (well, younger than I am now :) I always knew he loved me. He was really quiet, and usually talked more with my dad and Grandpa, but because of who he was it was easy to tell that the Great Grandkids meant a lot to him.

Again, I am so grateful for the love Great Grandpa displayed through his life, and for how close my extended family is. Over the past couple years I've realized that not every family has the same level of family love that I'm so privileged to experience.

So, Great Grandpa Wiebe, though I know you can't read this tribute, I want you to know how thankful I am for the life God gave you...it has made a difference! I love you! See you again someday!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!

To start off, I'll give a bit of background on the title of this blog. The title "Stand Firm" is taken from a verse in 1 Corinthians that has been running through my head for the past few months:

"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Lately it seems as though there is such an attack on the Christian church that people, no matter what their position or family background may be, are having a hard time standing firm in Christ. This verse in 1 Corinthians has been an encouragement to me to stand firm, no matter what life may throw in my face.

My prayer is that as I share my heart, and let my life be seen in writing through this blog, you will be encouraged to stand firm in Christ Jesus. Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, yet we need to ALWAYS give ourselves FULLY to the work of the Lord, for with Him, we can Stand Firm!

God bless you!
